Concrete Colors

Main or Primary Concrete Color Options

Primary Concrete Colors

The following section focuses on your primary concrete color. Color charts are available to assist you in selecting your main or base concrete color. Your primary color(s) can be applied to almost any type of concrete, whether it be normal looking concrete, stamped concrete, or anything in between. Your primary color is typically applied in one of two ways, or sometimes both ways: Integral or Color Hardener. More information on these options can also be found in the section below.

To learn about your secondary or accent colors, please click this link or scroll down to the Secondary Color section.

Integral Color

Integral color is one solid color added to the concrete truck before it leaves the plant, and are the easiest to work with. This color will encompass the concrete completely from top to bottom and side to side.

Color Hardener

Color hardener is a powder throw or cast over the wet normal colored concrete after in has been poured and placed. Unlike integral color, color hardener only colors the top layer of your concrete. This method is typically harder, dirtier, and may cost a bit more than the integral option. Color Hardener offers a wider color palette and one or multiple colors can be cast overtop the wet concrete. For high-end projects an integral color can be supplied by the concrete plant and one or multiple color hardeners can be cast overtop the integral color to create multi-colored shades. When stamping a texture into the concrete another color will be introduced, this color is called your release, secondary or accent color. Release color charts are covered in the next section and only apply to stamped concrete applications.

Secondary or Stamp Release Colors

Below are concrete color charts for your release colors, also known as secondary, or accent colors. For concrete contractors, these act as a bond-breaker between the concrete and the stamp, preventing the paste from adhering to the rubber during stamping. For the consumer, it leaves a secondary color on the concrete, enhancing definition, character, and providing a realistic look to your decorative texture. This effect is achieved when the color is pressed into the low points of the texture impressions on the wet concrete. After the concrete has hardened for a day or two, most of the release color is pressure washed off the slab, leaving only the color embedded in the depressions. When discussing your project with your contractor, be sure to inquire about the type of Release being used, as it impacts the overall cost. If your contractor ISN'T utilizing powder release, ensure they have plans to incorporate a SECONDARY ANTIQUE COLOR to achieve the best, most realistic results.
